SHIFT | The Young Growers Program.
The project ‘seeds’ part of the SHIFT vision to facilitate young people to grow, sell, and use fresh food.
It will support young people in developing capability in social enterprise, applied agriculture and sustainability, and hospitality. Young people are supported, mentored, and nourished to lead the early development of a garden/s to produce vegetables and fruit for the SHIFT Healthy Lunch Kitchen.
The S.H.I.F.T Young Growers program will engage and connect young people to their local food systems to improve their mental wellbeing, increasing knowledge of nutrition, food systems and security, production, and supply chains through growing and selling produce in a circular economy for S.H.I.F.T. Healthy Lunch Kitchen reimagining school lunches.
We anticipate youth Young Growers Ambassadors to emerge, and a strong plan for whole of school-community to drive S.H.I.F.T in the future.
The overall vision is to empower youth through engagement and learning opportunities in applied agriculture and social enterprise, by using hands on learning within local settings.
SHIFT Young Growers aims to provide a different future for young people, through food. Young people will be employed, will learn, will grow, will harvest, and will eat the food they grow, as will many others in their community.
